Silvio Muccino
Isabella Ragonese
Michael Rainey Jr
Maya Sansa
Andrea, a 28 year-old from a wealthy family, leads a superficial lifestyle: he has a difficult relationship with his mother, a frosty and distant woman, and leads a reckless life with his girlfriend and his friends, sleeping during the day and living it up at night. On his birthday he gets a letter from his father, whom he has not seen for over 20 years, telling him about his terminal illness and begging him to come to his bedside in Kenya. Andrea, against his own reservations, leaves for Nairobi, although he’s driven more by resentment than by compassion. Once he is in Africa, he learns he has a stepbrother, an 8 year-old his father had with a native woman. His father has passed away before Andrea can speak with him, and a volunteer who works in a Kenyan slum tells Andrea that he is now the legal guardian of his stepbrother. At this point Andrea begins a journey at once both geographical and interior that will take him much further than he could have imagined, a journey that will force him to face an issue that will effect his entire life: the choice between welcoming and loving Charlie or going back to Italy without him. Only a ten-hour flight from Nairobi, his secure and perfect world in Rome still waits for him. and, if he wants, his life can go on as it always has.
But what if a new world would be possible? A world in which you can live and love without the burden of unhealed wounds. A world in which you can shorten the distance between ourselves and the substance of love.
Un Altro Mondo is the story of growth and change, leading the protagonists to accept the most fragile and vulnerable part of themselves and to come to terms with their past.
